As he is speaking, the king is looking to his right and sees three women, all wearing white dresses. One of them appears to be the queen, who he assumes is the third wife. The other two women are servants who are here to feed everyone. The man says that the first woman must be Axelroot, as she is the only one wearing a hat.

He says that this hat would indicate that she is married to one man. The king then goes on to say that because it is Axelroot, there must be another wife somewhere. This leads him to believe that there must be another wife for her to be married to two men at once.
